I don't even know where to start this week...it's been nuts. This last week has been one of the harder weeks on my mission. Nothing in particular happened...it's more of what DIDN'T happen that was really disappointing.
We've been having a hard time meeting with our investigators cause they're so busy...and the ones we ARE meeting with aren't progressing...it's really tough to meet with someone time and time again and see that they aren't keeping their commitments. All I have to say is, everyone, READ THE BOOK OF MORMON!! It truly is key to the conversion process. It's what gives us the spiritual experiences we need to become truly converted to the gospel...for the right reasons.
Remember that family that we were teaching? Well, we're still working with them...ALOT. But it's been really tough. They like the gospel and want to get baptized, but they don't think it really applies to their everyday lifestyle. Church is church, school is school, and work is work. To them the gospel is only for when you're doing church things. Right now we're trying to help them understand that true conversion is a change. A desire to change your current lifestyle to be in line with the will of the lord.
As we've thought and prayed about how to help them understand this important principle, we came to the conclusion that they have to read the Book of Mormon and have a spiritual experience that will move their hearts. We can't give them that spiritual experience, only the spirit can. They can only have that experience if they pick up and open the Book of Mormon for themselves. We're praying that they'll do that.
On a more happy note, because alot of our appointments have been falling through, we've had alot of time to go finding!! Finding...you meet some funny people. For the most part we talk to the people through the intercom, so the conversation doesn't really go anywhere...but at this one apartment there was this 80 year old man. He was YELLING through the intercom (I think he might have been hard of hearing or something. Either that or just really excited to talk to us...haha. I bet you that was it!) It totally took me by surprise...i was so surprised that I started laughing (not out loud of course, cause that would be rude...but thank goodness I wasn't talking to him face to face...haha)
Anyways he was going off about how he was 80 years old and how it was pointless of us to share our message with an 80 year old man whose gonna die soon anyway. Well, I kindly told him that life didn't end at death and...he got all defensive and was all "NO NO NO NO, are you kidding? Of course there's no life after death, death is the end" Haha, it was really funny having this kind of a conversation with an old oji-chan(grandpa). Even though he was totally against what we were saying, it was really fun to talk to him. It kept me laughing all day:)
As for other news, I can't e-mail next week cause it's a holiday (children's day) and the e-mail place won't be open. So that means the next time you'll hear from me is on MOTHER'S DAY!!!! Yay!!!!!
